Reinvent Government?

How? With the help of ordinary citizens using the new digital tools that will help to dissolve the political gridlock and this will aid in transforming our community.  Just as social networking and smart phones have changed the way we communicate with one another, these same technologies can also change our relationship with government.

In a world where people can do anything at the touch of a button—shop, communicate, even transfer money-the same can hold true for local government, the key is access. The local government cannot, should not, and must not deny citizens access to all public data.  Can technology transform government into becoming more efficient and improve the cost effectiveness while empowering citizens: YES!

Opening up the vast storage bins of government data, is under our control.  Whether people use this information wisely is certainly not under our control, nor should it be.

Some say citizens are the free thinkers; they differ from politicians, and City employees. I would tend to agree that they do indeed differ.  If Carson City stands any chance at becoming the leader of a progressive type municipality, it will not start with the politicians or the City employee.  I would think it would most likely start with those free thinkers.

We must begin to push Carson City towards the future, and we can by collaboration with those enlightened free thinking digital citizens, who are willing to help. But first and foremost if there is any chance for that to occur - the vault door must be opened.
