Deep Thoughts, Cheap Shot and Bonbons
Part II

A recent article in the Nevada Appeal titled: Swearing in, 2015 Carson City board kickoff Monday by John Barrette published on December 31, 2014. Here is an excerpt from that article.
“Mayor Robert Crowell said Tuesday he intends to suggest Abowd remain in her roles as mayor pro tem on the board, handling the gavel if he’s absent, and as chairperson of the authority. He also said in the past there hasn’t been controversy in divvying up board members’ committee work with members usually agreeing on what they want, but if any slots are contended they will be handled when that comes up”.
I talked about this in my recently published letter, which you received on January 1, 2015
I have come up with a fair and amicable approach for the assignment of Board members to Commissions, Committees and Boards.
This concept has been forwarded to Board members -
At the Board meeting being held on January 5, 2015 prior to any discussion and appointments for agenda item #23A
The attached spread sheet should be displayed on the screen inside the Sierra Room during the meeting and utilized throughout the meeting.
I would like to suggest/encourage that the following procedure then be introduced.
That all Board members pick their top 5 categories for Commissions, Committees and Boards they wish to serve on.
Then these selections will be displayed on the screen in the Sierra Room and visible to the Board, audience and those watching on line.
After all Board members make their selections and it is displayed, then Board members may adjust their personal selection, based upon an overall view of all members sections. Possibly after reviewing all Board members selections a Board member may opt to withdraw their selection, and select another category due numerous Board members selecting the same category.
At this time if there is more than one Board member seeking the same  position then a discussion would  ensues, then nominations are in order, followed by a vote. The Board member who did not receive the vote to that position is then allowed to select another category to place their name on, if they so wish.  After all challenging positions are decided then all selections without competing Board members would be assigned to that lone Board member for that line item.
It is a very simple format and it provides the most upmost impartiality to all elected officials that serve our community. Please add to or adjust to this as you see fit.  If you have a better idea  - I look forward to hearing it.
The previous procedure is outdated and does not afford each Board member an opportunity to serve the citizens equally and fairly. Your consideration in this matter is greatly appreciated.
Your input and opinion on these or
other subject matters are appreciated and welcomed.
