Letter received regarding the narrowing of Main Street
Posted by permission

Subject: Carson Street
Dear Mayor and Supervisors,
Regarding your future plans for Main Street, both my wife and I who remember when Main St
was a two lane St.  with diagonal parking.  It was a  problem then, when the population was less than a third of what it is now. (1965)
We feel that parallel parking will create more problems and congestion, especially during the
winter, when your chances of being snow plowed in are not only possible, but likely.
Your dreams of creating a shopper's paradise is ill advised when you are competing with a
major shopping center to the south and a minor shopping center to the north.
We  believe that you should make a further evaluation after the freeway is completed and a true
picture of downtown traffic is realized.
In any case the decision should be placed on the ballot and let the whole community decide the issue
                                          Sincerely  Pete & Ann Petersen
